''Mamak'' shops under the affiliation of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Restaurants Owners Association (Presma), are still maintaining prices of their food for the past two years and have not raised them as alleged.

Presma president Ayoob Khan Muhammad Yakub said in fact Presma was planning to introduce a discount card to ease the burden of consumers.

"The card gives a 25 per cent discount to the handicapped, 10 per cent to senior citizens and five to 10 per cent to Malaysian students. The card is expected to be introduced soon in co-operation with the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK)," he told reporters at the KPDNKK here Wednesday.

Ayoob Khan was speaking to reporters after meeting KPDNKK minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin at the ministry yesterday.

Recently the issue of ''mamak'' shops raising the prices of their food especially ''roti canai'' and ''teh tarik'' went viral on social media, prompting Hamzah to call Presma for an explanation. - BERNAMA
