Power supply to all areas in Sabah has been fully restored since late Friday night, following a blackout which crippled the state in the morning, said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).

As of 8.45pm, 98 per cent of the power supply to over half a million consumers in the state was restored, except for several areas such as Sandakan and Kota Belud.

In a posting on its Faebook account, SESB said electricity supply to Kota Belud was only restored at 9.41pm while in Sandakan at 8.30am on Saturday. The only areas still affected are Batu 8, Batu 9, Jln Sentosa Hiew Yee Fatt, Taman Fortune and its surrounding areas.

Efforts are currently being made to restore power to these areas.

The Sabah power outage began at 11.05am Friday after the transmission line between Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Sepanggar tripped, causing a chain reaction to three power stations.

The power stations involved are the Ranhill Powertron, Teluk Salut and Patau GT3.

Electricity supply was then restored in stages beginning 12.15pm beginning in Ranau, followed by Tawau and Labuan at 1pm, Keningau (1.50pm), Semporna (1.55pm) and Kota Kinabalu at 6pm.

Meanwhile BERNAMA reported that Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili will ask Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Energy Commission (EC) to determine the actual cause of the blackout across Sabah yesterday.

This is because according to the SESB engineer the blackout should not have happened, he told reporters at the opening of the Tawau parliamentary office at Bandar Sri Indah on Friday.
