Police will ensure they are well prepared to face any possible threat or attack that may be planned by terror groups during the Malaysia Day celebrations come September 16.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police will raise its readiness nationwide to foil any possible attack, be it from Daish or any other terror group.

“We will raise our preparedness nationwide against any threat on Malaysia Day and not only in Penang.

“It doesn’t matter whether the threat stems from Daish or any group trying to disrupt the Malaysia Day celebrations which will be held in Bintulu,” he said after a Hari Raya Aidiladha event at Masjid Bukit Aman here today.

He added, police officers will also be placed on standby during the Malaysia Day celebrations.

Earlier this month, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Abdullah warned of an attempt by Daish militants to disrupt the Malaysia Day celebrations.

He said on the eve of Merdeka celebrations, police foiled several attempted attacks on entertainment outlets, the Hindu temple at Batu Caves and police stations.

The militants had planned to use bombs and firearms in the attack.

Three suspects were detained and have been charged.

Meanwhile in August Federal Police Principal Assistant Director of Counter Terrorism, Special Branch, Datuk Ayob Khan Maidin Pitchay revealed an intelligence report that indicated that terror groups in Malaysia may still have eight bombs in their possession.
