Police are investigating a report from a retired civil servant who claims he was assaulted by a police inspector in front of a kindergarten in Jalan Taming Sari, here, this morning.

Taiping district police chief ACP Harith Kam Abdullah said the 59-year-old pensioner lodged a police report alleging he was abused and threatened by the police inspector by the roadside in front of the kindergarten.

"The retiree's car mirror was also broken and he suffered minor injuries. It is understood that the incident was caused by a misunderstanding," he said in a statement, here Thursday.

Harith said police viewed the matter seriously and would not compromise with its officer if it was true he was acting in violation of the provisions of the law.

"The investigation will be conducted fairly and transparently," he said.

He said the case was being investigated under Sections 324/427/506 of the Penal Code and Section 90 of the Police Act 1967.
