Police are investigating the chairman of Bersih 2.0, Maria Chin Abdullah under Section 124C of the Penal Code for carrying out activities jeopardising parliamentary democracy.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that besides Maria Chin, police were also investigating Mohd Ali Baharom or Ali Tinju under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

"Don't think that she (Maria Chin) is above the law, the necessary permit must be obtained if the Bersih 5 assembly is to be held in November," he told reporters after the monthly assembly at the Bukit Aman level for September 2016, here today.

Menwhile, Khalid said the investigation on Ali Tinju was carried out after the military retiree was alleged to have made a security threat on Maria Chin, several days ago.

Ali Tinju, among other things, was reported by the media to have said that Maria Chin "will not walk on earth".
Media reports earlier had said that Maria Chin had fixed the date for the assembly.

It was said that several convoy programmes would be held before the assembly which would begin on Oct 1.
