A police inspector was found dead today in his office at the Pasir Puteh district police headquarters with a gunshot wound in the forehead.

Kelantan acting police chief, SAC Din Ahmad said the body of the 29-year-old victim was found about 9am when a policeman was ordered to search for the deceased after he did not show up at the district police headquarters administration meeting to represent the Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief.

"The policeman went to the victim''s room and saw a body on a chair with blood under the chair before reporting the incident to a police officer," he told reporters, here.

Din said the victim was pronounced dead by a doctor from Tengku Anis Hospital here at 9.40am.

He said the victim, who hailed from Selangor, had been transferred to the district police headquarters in February and was the officer on duty from 8pm yesterday to 8am today.

"However, there were people who heard a gunshot between 4am and 5am but they did not suspect anything until the discovery of the body this morning.

"As of now, the case is classified as sudden death. However, we will conduct a thorough investigation to identify the cause of death," he said. - BERNAMA
