Police have established the motive for the murder of a local university lecturer whose body was found in a car near a lake at PKNS Pinggiran Cyberjaya on Thursday, but investigations are ongoing.
Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said that the investigations, including finding all evidence that can help action to be taken against the suspect, are ongoing.
He said this when asked about the deployment of the Marine Police personnel at the lake area in Taman Putra Perdana in Puchong.
He was met by reporters after the handing-over of duties ceremony of the KLIA district police chief here.
Meanwhile, Sepang district police chief ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof, who was met by reporters at the same ceremony, said that the investigation found that the suspect had booked an e-hailing service to go directly to the location where the victim was found.
“The suspect said he was looking for his wife who failed to return home, but doubts were raised when the Grab Car he booked went straight to the scene, whereas if we look for missing people, we will look everywhere first,” he said.
In the 1 am incident on July 30 (Thursday), International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer Associate Prof Dr Maizatulnisa Othman, 40, was found dead in a car near the lake.
Following that, the police arrested a 41-year-old man who was the victim’s husband.
According to reports, the suspect is said to have pretended to look for his wife, accompanied by their 14-year-old daughter using an e-hailing service, after he was believed to have strangled the victim to death using her headscarf.
The incident is believed to have taken place in Taman Mas, Putra Perdana on Wednesday and the media reported the motive for the murder was due to the suspect not being able to accept the fact that his wife filed for divorce.
Commenting further, Wan Kamarul Azran said that the police had recorded the statement from the couple’s daughter and would call several other individuals including a woman linked to the suspect to assist in the investigation of the case.
The man was remanded until Thursday and Wan Kamarul Azran did not rule out the police will apply for an extension of the remand order against the suspect who is also a volunteer of a non-governmental organisation.
