Residents of Taman Kota Jaya were shocked by news that a 'pocong' (corpse like ghost) was seen leaning against a banana tree early Sunday morning.

Residents said the white object (pocong) measuring 1.5 metres was placed near the intersection of Jalan Nangka-Jalan Belinjau towards Kampung Kelantan.

The discovery of 'pocong' is a repeat of an incident five years ago when five bundles believed to be 'pocong' were found on the banks of Sungai Johor.

A resident known as Ramlan said he received a phone call from a friend who told him there was a pocong near his shop found at 9.30am.

Ramlan later informed the police about it.

"I was shocked as this incident (pocong) has never happened to me since I opened my business here for more than three years. This prank is done by mischievous youths to scare people," he told reporters when met here, Sunday.

Meanwhile, checks by Bernama found members of the public began to gather at the location and took pictures of the white object (pocong) wrapped using the 'telekung' (women's prayer robe).

Kota Tinggi district cemetery supervisor Jamaludin Sapuan said the 'pocong' was tied in five places and had a brooch on the neck stuffed with cotton, to make it look like a corpse.

"This act of creating 'pocong' is bad and considered as 'khurafat' (polytheism) in Islam. Hopefully those people involved in this 'pocong' prank knows Islamic laws and teachings and do not repeat it," he told reporters before burning the 'pocong' at Makam Bendahara Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Makam, here, Sunday afternoon.
