Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today conveyed his congratulations to national sprint king Khairul Hafiz Jantan on smashing the 49-year-old 200m national record at the 94th Malaysian Open Athletics Championships.

"Congratulations Khairul Hafiz for breaking the 200m national record held by Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan for 49 years, at the Malaysian Open Athletics Championships," he said in a Twitter post.


The 18-year-old sprinter from Melaka recorded a time of 20.90s at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium to break the 20.92s record of Jegathesan that was set in October 1968 at the Mexico Olympics.
