Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak today called on the people to reject any form of foreign interference in the politics of the country.

The Prime Minister said if foreign interference is allowed, the country will be doomed into a chaotic situation like what had happened to several Arab countries.

"We should not invite foreigners to interfere in our affairs. Let the internal affairs of the country be decided by the people themselves," he said during a meet-the-people session at Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Tian, Matu, situated 67km from here, today.

Surprisingly, a statesman who had once led the country and who had prevented or denied foreign interference during his tenure has today urged foreign intervention, he said.

Najib therefore urged the people of Sarawak to shun any form of interference from outside by showing their support for Barisan Nasional.

He said the people of Sarawak are duty-bound to decide their own future and decide how the state can become a developed and progressive state.

The Prime Minister who was on his way to Sibu from Miri by helicopter, stopped over in Matu to meet the people at about 3.50pm and spent time visiting the Pasar Tani Matu.

Najib's presence received an overwhelming response from about 5,000 people from Matu and its surrounding areas.

The Prime Minister said he was committed to lifting Sarawak to greater heights so that it will be on par with states in Peninsular Malaysia. Besides that, he assured that the state would continue to develop under the BN government.

That is why we are carrying out the Pan Borneo Highway project at a cost of RM16 billion, he said.

Also present were Igan Member of Parliament Datuk Abdul Wahab Dollah, BN candidate for Jemoreng, Dr Juanda Jaya and Daro BN candidate Safiee Ahmad.
