Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the UMNO leader who was plotting to topple the government had come to his senses and realised what he had planned was wrong.

Ahmad Zahid said the individual will be meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at about 6pm today on the matter, Bernama reported.

Ahmad Zahid when opening the Tampin UMNO annual general meeting said he was informed of the latest development, last night.

"The information that I received is valid, not roadside information and this information I had received is from the person attending the meeting.

"If I don't raise up the matter from now, probably more Barisan Nasional (BN) members of parliament would have been bought to sign the 'Aku Janji'," he was quoted saying by Bernama.

On Saturday, Ahmad Zahid said said there were attempts to topple the government by a ‘certain leader’ from UMNO.

Ahmad Zahid who doesn’t want to reveal who the leader is, however, said this leader is hoping for the support of 87 Opposition MPs and an Independent MP to overthrow the government using the ‘back door’.

UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had denied any involvement in the plot to overthrow the government.

Ahmad Zahid when opening the Klang UMNO delegates meeting yesterday had also challenged the UMNO leader he claimed of planning to topple the government, to deny the claim to the media.

He said the plot was not a creation but was actually taking place.

"I know this thing is happening because as Home Minister, I receive information and I will also find out who is behind it. I don't have to expose the person as this will reveal itself," he said according to Bernama.

He also reminded UMNO members not to persecute a leader by just basing on perception.
