Sixty families in Kampung Ekor Kucing here claimed that the quality of their lives have deteriorated ever since a plastic factory began operating from the village three months ago.

The villagers claimed that the factory operations had caused air, water and noise pollution to the extent of causing them to lose their appetite and fall sick.

Awang Dahaman, 79, who lives 200 metres away from the factory, said he had not been able to get a good night's sleep as the factory would begin its noisy operation from 10pm until the following morning every day.

"We are also suffering from a foul smell caused by the factory waste, besides their the waste water being dumped into our drains and canals," he said.

He said apart from that, tens of the factory lorries going in and out of the factory through the small village road were also dangerous to residents' safety.

Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he would contact the Department of Environment and other relevant agencies to investigate the factory's status.

"We view the matter seriously because the factory is found to have improper irrigation system and located on a very unsuitable site," he said.
