PKR candidate for the Bekenu state seat in the Sarawak election last month, Bill Kayong, was shot dead in Miri at about 9am today, said party communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

According to Fahmi's message sent via Whatsapp, the incident took place near the Emart One-Stop Shopping Mall in Senadin, Miri.

His pickup truck was shot and the 43-year old PKR Miri branch secretary was killed in broad daylight at a traffic light intersection of Jalan Permyjaya-Kuala Baram.

Bill, who was driving the vehicle which carries the PKR logo, was shot from the driver's window while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.

He was reportedly shot in the neck and found collapsed in his seat at around 9.20am.

The incident took place at a traffic light intersection of Jalan Permyjaya-Kuala Baram.
Bill, who is also political secretary to Miri MP Dr Michael Teoh, is known for being outspoken in voicing the issues of society, including indigenous land matters.

In the May 7 state polls, he who garnered 1,220 votes lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Rosey Yunus (6,009) in a four-cornered fight.
