Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) expressed its disappointment with PAS for not complying to an agreement made in February 8, 2015 during a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) meeting on the implementation of hudud.

PKR also said that the action taken by PAS today also went against a mutual agreement made in 2011.

In a statement to the media by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali today, they said that the agreement made in 2011 was agreed upon by all coalition members.

“Any policy or policy implementation which involves Pakatan Rakyat should get the approval of all three parties.

“The agreement is always referred to as ‘agree to disagree’ as it took into account the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 which has been in existence since before the (formation) of PR,” the statement said.

The statement added that, earlier the Kelantan state representative, pas Deputy Commissioner, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah had informed the PR leadership Council meeting on February 8, 2015 that the bill which will be tabled has only four amendments to the enactment approved in 1993.

“PKR respected that the amendment made was not a new law and does not change the current status.

“However, PKR was not given the amended draft until last week which is on March 12, 2015 (one week before it was tabled at the State Assembly).

“The draft which was tabled is not the four amendments as informed but a whole 34 page enactment,” the statement added.

For PKR, although the contents did not differ much from the original enactment in 1993, it however does not comply to the mutual agreement agreed upon by PR in 2011 on the implementation of hudud.

The statement added that PKR respected the Kelantan government’s standings to table the enactment however it is only right if the Kelantan government also respected the agreement reached by PR.

The Kelantan State Legislative Assembly today passed the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015).

The Bill was passed with a unanimous vote from its lawmakers.
