KUALA LUMPUR:Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Communications Director, Khalid Abdul Samad has denied allegations that his party will force PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign in a meeting on Monday, December 7.

Earlier today, there were rumors that Amanah planned to do so after Anwar promised last week to resign as Opposition Leader within seven days, if he did not succeed in gathering the support of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

Anwar, however, denied making the promise.

Khalid said the allegation was clearly intended to pit  Amanah against Anwar.

"The recent Amanah National Committee meeting only decided that Amanah appreciated Anwar's willingness to take responsibility for what happened in the Dewan Rakyat on November 26.

"However, we have also agreed to discuss with our coalition partners on what to do next after the event.

"Therefore, it is not true at all to say that Amanah had given an ultimatum to its partners in Pakatan Harapan.

"It is not Amanah’s culture to give an ultimatum to its coalition partners,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Earlier, The Malaysian Insight portal reported that Amanah had agreed to give Anwar a chance to fulfil his promise to resign as Pakatan Harapan Chairman and Opposition Leader after failing to overthrow the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government within seven days after the presentation of the 2021 Budget.

The report cited an undisclosed source as explaining the agreement was reached at the party's national leadership committee meeting on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a source from DAP when contacted confirmed that the meeting will take place.

"DAP MPs have been told about this meeting," he said.

However, he denied allegations that the meeting was aimed at urging Anwar to step down.

"This meeting is just more of a follow-up to last Thursday's meeting (after the 2021 Budget voting session).

"Members of Parliament (DAP) only want to hear what Anwar's plans are and if there are any updates from him," the source added.
