The Perlis Mufti Department plans to hold a mass Istisqa special prayer session for the second time for rain to come, to end the water supply crisis in the state.

The department had organised similar special prayers on April 19 with the cooperation of Istana Arau at the palace grounds.

Perlis Mufti, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin hopes the Istisqa prayers, the date of which has not been set yet, will be attended by the state's top leaders and more members of the public.

"The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail had joined the congregation of about 800 people at the previous Istisga prayer session.

"However, I regret that the state's top leadership was only represented by the state assembly Speaker, Hamdan Bahari," he told a press conference at his office, here, today.

Mohd Asri said it would be best if more people attend the coming special prayers including the state's top leaders as they were shouldering more the burden of solving the current water supply crisis.

"So let's all congregate for the Istisga prayers planned to be held at the Timah Tasoh dam area in Beseri, near here, soon.

"May Allah answer our prayers by bringing rain to the dam which supplies water to residents in the northern part of the state," he said.

Mohd Asri also said that his department today issued a letter to encourage all mosque imams in the state to initiate the reading of the doa qunut nazilah to pray for the safety of the people in turbulent Syria, during the daily obligatory prayers.
