Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the state government would trace the government officer who leaked Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) documents to the opposition.

He said the action was needed as civil servants are responsible for protecting and keeping government secrets as enshrined in the Official Secrets Act.

"This is not a question of being afraid or covering wrongdoings...but every civil servant is responsible for protecting government documents.

"I sympathise them (civil servants) who have been accused of not doing their job to protect government secrets but I will find the person responsible for the leak," he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here Tuesday.

He was replying to points raised by Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Kepayang) on the performance of MB Inc and claims of obtaining the corporation's official documents from a government servant.

On MB Inc, Zambry said the action of the opposition was too much as it gave the impression the corporation was involved in some major scandals.

According to Zambry, the opposition had frequently debated the MB Inc issue and kept repeating the same statements in the assembly.

"We will accept it if they give views on the governance of MB Inc but their stand is more towards creating hatred to MB Inc.

"I have always wondered what lies behind their thinking, maybe they have an agenda," said the assemblyman for Pangkor.

Meanwhile, State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the opposition should support and be happy that since MB Inc was reactivated in 2014, the corporation had improved sand mining royalty collection.

"MB Inc had succeeded in reducing the sand revenue leakages and stopped illegal sand mining operators," he said.

He added that the government was puzzled with the real intention of the opposition despite replying to various issues raised. -- Bernama
