The Kedah state government is urged to pay special attention to a more systematic infrastructure and management in Pantai Cenang, Langkawi to make it a truly world class tourists hub.

Nor Saidi Nanyan (BN-Kuah) said this was because Pantai Cenang, dubbed as 'a gift to Langkawi' and more beautiful than Patung Beach in Phuket, Thailand, has several disadvantages from various aspects despite being a must-visit tourist destination.

"Due to the lack of enforcement by the relevant authorities, several cafes and bars are open randomly on the beach with loud music and entertainment activities that are not monitored while there are no proper infrastructure facilities for jet ski riding, swimming or playing banana boats," he said when debating on the motion of thanks on the address by the Sultan of Kedah at the Kedah state assembly here Tuesday.

Nor Saidi also questioned the construction of the Cenang Waterfront project which received an allocation of RM28.8 million but had yet to be ready. Works on the project began in 2015.

Hence, Nor Saidi suggested that Langkawi Municipal Council managed the beach area to ensure tourists kept returning to the island, which received 3.8 million tourists last year.
