Parents play an important role in counselling their children in the early stages before they enter school, said Assistant Minister to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Elron Angin.

He said when at home, parents were the teachers to their children and as teachers they must be aware of what were going on when their children were outside the home in order to guide them in their education.

"As such it is not right for some parents to leave the responsibility of educating their children to the school and place the burden entirely on teachers," he said when launching Pensiangan parliamentary constituency Kemas Kindergarten Children's Day here Thursday.

Meanwhile, he said, as leaders of the future, children should be exposed to a systematic approach of learning from the early years of schooling and schools must adopt creative approaches to cultivate children''s interest in learning.

Elron who is also Sook state assemblyman added that the Barisan Nasional-led government was always sensitive to the needs of the people especially in providing education from early childhood to tertiary level.
