Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said parenting courses may be made compulsory to curb child abuse.

"Presently, parenting courses are not made compulsory as it gives the impression that parents do not know their responsibilities but we are relooking it," she told reporters at parliament lobby, here Thursday.

The comments followed the image of a school girl on social media with the feet chained to a pillar in Lagoon Perdana, Bandar Sunway, for allegedly refusing to attend school.

Rohani said she did not want to make any conclusion since the case was still under police investigation.

The girl was taken to hospital to undergo medical examination and would be given counseling.

She said the ministry was working with the Ministry of Education, via the National Social Council, to determine the cause and the measures to be taken. -- BERNAMA
