More than 500 residents at Kampung Titi Tampang and Kampung Guar Medang Gatal in Chuping had to do without light last night after a tree fell on an electric cable during a thunderstorm, disrupting power supply.

Trees also fell on several houses and vehicles in the area, including a car which three family members were travelling in.

However, no casualties have been reported in the incident which started around 5.40 pm and lasted for about half an hour, according to local police when contacted here today.

A Perlis Tenaga Nasional Berhad team managed to restore the power supply in stages from 2 am.

Meanwhile, Civil Defence Department staff managed to clear by 7 pm, a tree that had fallen across Padang Besar-Kangar road cutting off accessibility on both directions.

Eight state Fire and Rescue Department personnel also assisted in the clearing works.
