Thousands of members from more than 40 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will gather in front of the US embassy, here, on Friday to protest the Israeli regime's aggression on Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest site.
The peaceful assembly, called 'Day of Rage', would be held after Friday prayers at 2pm, according to a spokesman for the Secretariat of the Save Al-Quds campaign, Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim.
Mohamad Raimi, who is also president of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM), said the movement would also submit a memorandum of protest to the embassy of the United States, a strong ally of Israel.
"We have informed the embassy of the peaceful assembly, and have applied to Kuala Lumpur police for permission to hold the rally. So far, everything is positive," he told a press conference on the gathering, at his office, here, Wednesday.
Since Aug 24, Israel has been attacking Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, including shooting inside the mosque, and attempting to separate the worship 'space and time' between Muslims and Jews.
Mohamad Raimi said through the Save Al-Quds campaign, ABIM would also extend financial assistance received from public donations to contribute to the protecion of Al-Aqsa Mosque via the 'Jerusalem Fund'.
At the press conference, deputy chairman of Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM), Siti Jamilah Sheikh Abdullah said the protest gathering was not only open to Muslims, but also followers of other religions, especially Christians.
"The Christians are also threatened by the actions of the Israeli regime, which is currently implementing a Judaism programme throughout the world. So they (Christians) too can join this gathering, as well as people of other faiths," she said.
Sekretariat Himpunan Ulama Rantau Asia (SHURA) or Asian Regional Assembly of Ulama Secretariat chairman, Abdul Ghani Samsudin said Malaysians of various races and religions should unite against Israeli aggression, which violated human rights on the ticket of fighting terrorism.
Representatives of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), Malaysian Youth Council (MBM), Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Penyayang Uswah (Uswah), MyCare, Aqsa Syarif, HALUAN, Yayasan Al Quds, and the Palestinian Cultural Organisation Malaysia (PCOM) were present at the press conference.
Also present were UMNO Youth executive council member Armand Azha and secretary of the PAS International Committee, Mohd Faiz Mohd Nawi.
