Perak police have recorded a 22.1 per cent increase in road accidents from 932 cases in the state on the seventh day of Ops Selamat 11/2017 since June 18.

The total was 169 cases more than 736 cases recorded in the same period last year.

Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said however, the number of fatalities dropped to 10 cases which was 52.4 per cent lower compared to 21 cases last year.

"Thank God, the number of deaths this year has fallen during Ops Selamat. However, there was an increase in the number of summonses issued by the police.

"I think the number of summonses issued have conveyed the message and resulted in a reduction of accident-related deaths," he told reporters at the Perak Police Chief Aidilfitri Open House at his residence here today.

Hasnan said Perak police issued 11,183 summonses as at yesterday, which was 842 more than 10,341 issued last year.
