The number of flood victims in Kelantan rose to 1,213 from 329 families as at 8pm today from 944 (263 families) at 4pm.

Kelantan director of the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, Zainuddin Hussin said there were 551 flood victims from 135 families in Kuala Krai, 348 (94 families) in Jeli, 254 (76 families) in Tanah Merah, 57 (13 families) in Machang and 43 (11 families) in Pasir Mas.

"The victims are sheltered at 26 relief centres in five flood-affected districts," he said when contacted, here.

Zainuddin said the number of flood evacuees was expected to increase late tonight, especially in Pasir Mas and Tumpat, with overflowing water from the rivers now.

Meanwhile, three main rivers in Kelantan showed declining levels as at 8pm compared to four at 4pm today, according to the state government website at http://ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my.

The water level in Sungai Galas at Dabong dropped to 34.33 metres from 35.10 metres this evening. The danger level is at 38 metres.

Sungai Lebir at Tualang was at 30.74 metres deep compared to 31.26 metres (warning level is at 35 metres) and Sungai Kelantan at Tangga Krai at 24.06 metres from 24.43 metres earlier (warning level at 25 metres).

However, the water level in Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang rose to 9.58 metres from 9.41 metres, exceeding the warning level at 9 metres.

So far, no loss of lives have been reported due to the floods.
