The flood situation in Kelantan was not showing any signs of recovery following the increase in the number of evacuees from time to time.

As at 8am today, a total 8,600 flood victims from 2,784 families have been evacuated to 79 relief centers in the state.

Bachok becomes the latest district hit by flood, making the total nine districts in Kelantan inundated with water.

Pasir Mas maintains its record with the highest number of victims, with some 4,545 evacuees from 1,790 families.

It is followed by Kuala Krai with 1,451 evacuees, Kota Bharu (682), Machang (847), Pasir Puteh (217), Tanah Merah (638), Bachok (107), Tumpat (45) and Jeli (29).

The water level at Jambatan Guilemard, Kuala Krai and Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang was still at 1.31 meters reading, above the danger level this morning.

Meanwhile, the readings for other major rivers were also at the alert level.

More than 30 alternative roads and village roads in Pasir Mas, Machang, Kuala Krai and Pasir Puteh had to be closed to light vehicles due to floods.

At the same time, Kelantan Education Department reported that 48 schools in the state were closed due to floods involving more than 5,000 students and 1,500 teachers.

More people are expected to be evacuated this afternoon as it is still raining in Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas and Tumpat.
