No Malaysians have been affected by the Mount Sinabung volcanic eruption in Sumatra, Indonesia last Saturday, said Wisma Putra in a statement today.

The Foreign Ministry also has advised all Malaysians who are in the vicinity of the affected area to take precautionary measures.

“They are also advised to register with the Consulate-General of Malaysia in Medan which can be reached at + 6261 453 1342 / 453 5271 / 4523992 or via e-mail [email protected],” it said.

In the incident, at least seven people were killed while two others are in critical condition after being scorched by hot clouds of ash from the volcano eruption in Karo district, north Sumatra.

Previously, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the Malaysian Meteorological Department will continue to conduct regular monitoring of the movement of smoke and dust eruption from Mount Sinabung .

So far, he said, no smoke or dust from the mountain reached Malaysia and up to 12 noon Monday, there was no aftershock eruption.
