All 12 concessionaires will not increase highway toll rates this year and next year, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said eight of them were due to raise the rates this year and the other four next year.

"The Cabinet, on Oct 12, agreed to postpone the streamlining of toll rates for 2016 and 2017. This means that there will be no increase in toll rates this year and next year," he said when winding up debate on the 2017 Supply Bill allocation for the ministry in the Dewan Rakyat.

Fadillah said the eight routes were the North-South Plus Expressway, Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH) and New North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB).

The compensation to the eight concessionaires for not raising the toll rates was estimated at RM593 million, he said.

The four other routes were the Johor Bahru Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL), Kajang–Seremban Expressway (LEKAS), Senai–Desaru Expressway (SDE) and Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE).

The compensation due to the four concessionaires was estimated at RM59.77 million, he said. -- BERNAMA
