Vehicles in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will use the new registration numbers starting with the alphabet 'F' and 'V' respectively from next month.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the registration number will be followed by a number from 1 to 9999.

Currently, the Federal Territories of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur are using registration numbers starting with alphabets followed by numbers and alphabets again.

"The Road Transport Department (RTD) will issue the new numbers in June for Putrajaya and later for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here Thursday.

Earlier, replying to Datuk Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik) on the monitoring of the 'ghost' lorries at construction, mining and logging areas that had been causing accidents, Ab Aziz said a Special Task Force had been formed to address the issue.

"The team is formed by the RTD especially to deal with serious offences including monitoring the movement of 'ghost' lorries.

"It also includes monitoring the movements of garbage trucks that get government concessions and taxis driven by foreigners," he told the Dewan Rakyat.

He said the ministry also intended to amend the Road Transport Act 1987 seeking to empower the RTD to enter logging, mining and construction premises to monitor the 'ghost' lorries.
