A new malaria outbreak has been identified at an Orang Asli village in Pos Poi, here, today.

It was reported that this new outbreak is not related to the earlier outbreak in Gerik.

The tests conducted upon the victims show that the outbreak in Pos Poi were caused by the plasmodium falciparum parasite.

Meanwhile, the outbreak in Pos Kemar, Gerik was due to a different parasite, the p.vivax.

Six people, aged between one and 31 years old, were hospitalised due to the outbreak.

These new cases have raised the total number of malaria victims to 142 from 136 victims.
