The Negeri Sembilan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) has recorded a 14 per cent increase in arrests related to drug offences for the January to Nov 30 period or 8,747 arrests as compared to 7,649 arrests in the corresponding period last year.

State police chief Datuk Jaafar Mohd Yusof said the arrests also saw the confiscation of assets worth RM4.3 million while the forfeiture value was RM279,570, compared with RM2.3 million worth of seizure and RM83,397 forfeiture value for the corresponding period last year.

"Arrests under the supply category showed a 17 percent increase with 577 arrests compared to 492. Under the drug abuse category there were 4,465 arrests compared to 4,042 last year," he told reporters here, Wednesday.

Jaafar added that arrests of drug addicts saw a 15 per cent increase or 2,187 cases compared to 1,885 arrests last year and of the total this year, 1,619 were new addicts. - BERNAMA
