Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today slammed Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman's statement who claimed that the former premier had embarrassed the country by speaking to the New York Times.

In fact, he said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is the one who's embarrassing the country with his 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue and allegations that are left unanswered until now.

“The whole world knows about Najib, Jho Low, and 1MDB,” he said in his latest entry from his blog,chedet.cc.

He said despite there's a report of a study done by foreign experts which claimed that Malaysia was one of the top 10 most corrupted countries in the world, Anifah seemed unashamed.

"Anifahis not embarrassed by all these. He didn’t say anything,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said if Anifah was ashamed, he would question and advise Najib on the scandal and the reports in foreign media and for Najib to refrain himself from being acquainted with Jho Low.

“But in Malaysia, you have people defending a leader without other reasons apart from job security,” he said.

"What's embarrassing the nation is Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his 1MDB. Before this, the country has never been bombarded with unanswered allegations like now," Dr Mahathir added.

The former premier has been the fiercest critic of Najib over the 1MDB issue and the 1Malaysia People Aid (BR1M).
