Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tonight hosted an official dinner in honour of the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and his wife Lady Lynne Cosgrove at Seri Perdana here.

Present were Najib's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor; Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup; Deputy Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

Upon arrival, Najib greeted and ushered the Governor-General and his wife to the food displayed outside the Protocol Hall and spent a few minutes showing and explaining the local fruits which were put on display.

Among the local fruits put on display were durian, jackfruit, mangosteen, pineapple and guava.

The guests were feted to western menu and a spread of local fruits.

Throughout the dinner, the guests were entertained by Permata Seni children orchestra who perfomed various songs including the Pink Panther theme song, a medley of songs from the ABBA group and "joget" songs besides the "inang" dance.

Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove arrived here Tuesday for a five-day maiden state visit.

A Wisma Putra statement said, tomorrow, Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove are scheduled to visit and tour the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Butterworth, Penang where he would meet with the Australian Defence Force personnel stationed there.

The Governor-General and wife will then proceed to Sandakan, Sabah to attend the 70th Anniversary of Sandakan Memorial Day on Saturday and from there will leave for Australia.
