Kedah police have detained two men to assist investigations on a video of a group of people feasting on mutton curry in a village in Langgar near here that was considered in defiance of the Movement Control Order that came into force on Wednesday.

Kota Setar District Police ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said, acting on information, police picked up the two men at their homes in Langgar at about 5.15 pm on Friday.

He said one of the men was believed to have recorded the video while the other was believed to be the organiser of the feast.

Mohd Rozi said the two men, aged between 45 and 60, were taken to the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action.

"Both will be brought before the magistrate tomorrow (Saturday) for a remand order to assist investigation," he told a press conference on roadblocks at Jalan Tanjung Bendahara here last night.

He also urged the public to stay home in complying with the Movement Control Order from March 18 to 31 as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday.

"Please refrain from doing anything unnecessary, especially in undermining the authorities, non-compliance of the order, and causing alarm to the public with postings (on social media)," he added.

Mohd Rozi said police also confiscated a cellphone from the two men who tested negative for drugs.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 3 (2) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (PPPB) 2020, Section 7 (1) of PPPB 2020, Section 270 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.

He said investigations found the feast – attended by between 25 to 30 people, in their 20s to 30s -- was held on Wednesday, the first day the Movement Control Order came into force.
