Selangor PAS ulama wing's former committee member Wan Ji Wan Hussin, was arrested early this morning under the Sedition Act 1948.

The preacher is expected to be charged today.

The 32-year-old was arrested in Shah Alam and taken to the Selangor police headquarters in Section 9 around 2am.

When contacted by Astro AWANI today, police confirmed the arrest.

Wan Ji had been vocal in criticising the country’s religious authorities. He had also spoken against the Home Ministry’s ban on the use of the word “Allah” in Malay-language bibles.

He had also allegedly commented on Malay rulers and that the sultans could not be called the head of the religion.

Yesterday, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said it is in the midst of reviewing several cases of those charged under the Sedition Act 1948, including the case of law lecturer Ass Prof Dr Azmi Sharom.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in the statement said the review of cases was a normal procedure to ensure the AGC remained fair and just.

He said the final decision on the matter will be made soon.

On Sept 2, Azmi was charged at the Sessions Court with using seditious words over the Perak crisis.
