The family of businessman Datuk Ong Teik Kwang who was shot dead by his newly-hired bodyguard on Thursday, will take legal action against a security firm.

Ong's wife, Datin Vivian Cheow said the bodyguard was just a day into his job and serving for her husband upon recommendation by the firm.

"I don't want to name the firm but we will take action against it to seek justice for my husband," she told reporters when met at the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi funeral parlour here today.

In the 7.15pm incident, three men, including Ong, died while five other people were injured when they were shot by the bodyguard along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the bodyguard had a history of mental instability.

Describing her husband as someone who loved to do charity work and helped the less fortunate, Cheow said the businessman was chairman of CK One Charity Welfare Association.

Meanwhile, RTM cameraman Mohamad Amirul Amin, 28, who was injured after being allegedly shot by the bodyguard when trying to offer assistance, is now reportedly in a stable condition.

His mother, Bunisa Mohd Ali, 58, said Mohamad Amirul, who has been warded at the Penang Hospital's intensive care unit following surgery, had gained consciousness late yesterday afternoon.

"Amirul opened his eyes about 5pm yesterday and shook hands with me. He also asked for a glass of water but was not allowed to consume anything then," she said.

She said her son was getting better but complained of pain in the left shoulder due to the surgery.

"The doctors told him not to speak too much and was instead, advised to get sufficient rest," she added.

During the incident, Ong, who was driving a BMW car, was shot in the neck and died on the spot.

Others who were killed were Senthil Murugiah, 38; and Choi Hon Ming, 32. They were reportedly driving their vehicles nearby.

Apart from Mohamad Amirul, the injured victims were Lee Hong Boon, 56; Nurul Huda Aziz, 38; Arivarni Krishnan, 33; and Lim Boon Leng, 32. -Bernama
