Three people including a woman have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a baby boy believed to have been dumped into a ravine at Genting Highlands last month.

Selangor police chief, Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said the suspects, in their 40s, were detained in Shah Alam on Tuesday and they are also believed to be involved in human trafficking activities.

“The victim, a 33-year-old Indonesian woman who had worked as a cleaner, had lodged a report on May 31 regarding her missing child,” said Abdul Samah in a statement to the media.

The suspects detained were the victim’s employer, his wife and friend.

According to the victim, her employer, known as Mr Wong, was also an agent dealing with foreign workers without work permits.

Mr Wong had said that the victim’s son, aged one year and six months, had been given to his friend.

“It is understood that the boy was born on November 21 last year as a result of a raping incident involving the employer’s friend while the victim had been sent to work at his house,” Abdul Samah said.

When the employer’s friend came to know that the victim was pregnant, he had sent the victim back to Mr Wong and during her pregnancy, she had been sent to work with several other employers.

“The victim had been sent back to Mr Wong when she was about to deliver the baby and upon delivery Mr Wong had taken the child to Genting Highlands,” he added.

The victim had also informed the police that there were about 29 Indonesian women working as domestic helpers without valid work permits and had not been paid their wages.

“We have been made to understand that these workers have been exploited sexually by their employers including Mr Wong and they are being placed at three locations in the Klang Valley,” Abdul Samah said.

With the information from the victim, police were able to rescue six Indonesian women who had been locked up in a house and this morning, police had gone to the location where the baby was said to have been dumped.

“Based on the a confession obtained from the suspect, the baby had reportedly died and was dumped in a ravine at Genting Highlands,” Abdul Samah said.

The police had discovered the baby’s decayed body bloated and infested by maggots and its forensics team will scour the area for other clues.

The suspects have been remanded until June 10 to assist in investigations under Section 301 of the Penal Code for murder.
