The Ministry of Transport (MOT) targets 1.2 million users of public transport in the Klang Valley daily this year, especially during peak hours.

Its secretary general, Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim said the target is the MOT Key Performance Indicator (KPI) taking into account the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) which was completed and operational.

"We have achieved our KPI of 450,000 people using public services, daily during peak hours, last year, namely, from 6 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7.30 pm.

"This year, with MRT's operational, the boosting of infrastructure such as stations and upgrading of car parks will enable more consumers to use public transportation. I am confident the KPI can be met," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after launching a handing over ceremony for a car park project and other facilities at Nilai Komuter Station here, Thursday.

This year, MOT will build car parks at Batu 3 Komuter Station under the 'Park Drop Zone' concept and Rawang Komuter Station, at an estimated cost of RM50 million.

"We expect the car park areas for all the stations to be completed in 2018. This will draw more consumers to use public transport," he said.
