KUALA LUMPUR:The number of individuals detained for flouting the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) continues to go up with 661 more people detained yesterday, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Of the total, he said 648 individuals were compounded while 13 were remanded.

Among the offences were falling foul of the directives of the RMCO including conducting activities in pubs and night clubs (577), not adhering to social distancing (42), not wearing face mask (30).

Failure to provide items for recording individuals’ personal detail (eight), premises operating beyond permitted period (three) and not complying with home quarantine order (one).

Meanwhile, he said 40 illegals, five skippers and a smuggler were nabbed while nine heavy vehicles were seized at road blocks under Ops Benteng.

On mandatory quarantine, he said 36,344 Malaysians had returned home via international border entry gates from July 24 until yesterday.

He said the Malaysians, who had returned from 33 countries, were housed at 66 hotels and nine other premises including Public Training Institutes (ILA) and private institutions of higher learning nationwide.

‘’Of the total, 8,235 are undergoing mandatory quarantine, 103 sent to hospitals for treatment while 28,006 individuals were discharged,’’ he said.

He also said that from March 30 until yesterday, 10,135 public sanitation operations encompassing 135 zones were implemented involving 13,059 premises including business premises (2,716), housing areas including People’s Housing Projects (1,601), public places (2,623), super markets (354) and government buildings (5,765).
