More than 20,000 people attended the talk by famed Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik at the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka here Sunday night.

Since he arrived in the country on April 9, the religious scholar from India has held four talks in Terengganu and one in Kuala Lumpur.

Members of the public began arriving at UTeM at about 5pm to attend various informative events held by the organisers before Dr Zakir began his talk titled 'Islam - Problems and Solutions to Humanity' at about 8pm.

Also present were Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, former chief minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam and Melaka state exco members.

In his opening speech, Idris said the title of the talk tonight was chosen in view of the current challenges involving people of all races and religions.

"The predicaments facing humanity can range from starvation in some parts of the world due to corruption and poor management of resources, deadly diseases as well as war due to conflicting political and religious ideologies," he said.
