The Ministry of Health (MOH) has expressed concern that the COVID-19 pandemic could infect high-risk groups including senior citizens and children during the Aidilfitri holiday season.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was because the community was exposed to the virus every time they came out and could possibly bring the virus home.

Therefore, he encouraged the community to maintain a high level of hygiene including washing hands before contacting the group.

“That's why during the festive season the MoH is worried that we might bring the virus back to the village and infect the elderly and children.

"So, what is important is that we have to comply with the SOP (standard operating procedure) provided by the MoH, make sure we (practise) the social distancing of at least one meter, make sure we always wash our hands with soap and water or use sanitizers.

"In addition, make sure we avoid assembly and we should protect our families and communities," he said at a daily press conference here on Saturday.

Yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham advised Muslims to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri in private in their homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
