The Ministry of Health (MOH) has expressed confidence that the approved standard operating procedure (SOP) involving the education sector can curb the transmission of COVID-19 among students.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the guidelines were in place and he had the opportunity to review them.

He reminded parents that they need not worry about the issue of social distancing as the priority of school reopening is given to Form 5 and Form 6 students who will sit for examinations.

“So, it will be about two weeks before we open (schools) and we will let our students and parents know.

"But what is certain is that we have not yet made a decision when the schools will reopen but guides like the SOP are all ready and I had a look at the implementation.

“I am confident that with the SOP's capabilities, we can prevent the spread of the infection," he said in a daily media conference here on Wednesday.
