The Communications and Multimedia Ministry will consider setting up a syariah panel committee specifically for the creative industry, so that it can give the 'SC' or 'syariah compliant' rating to any syariah-compliant media content.

Ministry deputy secretary-general (Policy) Datuk Mohid Mohamed, said such a committee was needed to build parents' confidence to allow their children to watch the films or TV programmes.

"There is a proposal to set up the committee and we feel that it is a good and positive effort for our broadcasting industry.

"So, when parents see that the shows are rated 'SC', they will feel more confident to allow their children to watch it because they know that no inappropriate scenes will be shown."

He said this to reporters after opening the Creative-Syariah Seminar for Creative Industry organised jointly by the Institute of Islamic Strategic Research Malaysia (Iksim) and Federal Territories Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

Earlier in his speech, Mohid called on all TV stations in the country to give more room and opportunity to producers who produced syariah-compliant media content.

At the same time, he said the stations could also give additional incentives to encourage the production of syariah-compliant media content in the country.

"I believe and confident that with cooperation and commitment from all quarters, the aspiration to produce syariah-compliant media content will be well accepted and supported by the public who longed for beneficial and quality media content," he said.
