Mek Som Mat Diah, the octogenarian whose left leg was severed by a teenage drug addict last Sunday, is recovering well from the traumatic experience.

The incident occurred during a robbery at her house in Kampung Tanjung Rendang, Lemal, Pasir Mas.

Her niece, Mek Nab Awang Ngah, 70, said her 89-year-old aunt had also accepted the fact that she was now physically disabled.

"She can now eat and sleep well, but was so eager to return home.

"The doctor said she will probably be discharged from the hospital by Monday or Tuesday," she told reporters when met at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian, near here today.

Earlier, Mek Som also received a visit from International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also UMNO Supreme Council member.
