People who are still in the kampungs and wish to return to the capital can apply through the Gerak Malaysia app starting April 25.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, however, the final decision would only be made after May 1 after the approval of the National Security Council (MKN) on the advice of the Ministry of Health (MOH).

He said those without Internet access could sign up at a nearby police station with the condition of making an appointment with the police beforehand.

"The final decision will be made only after May 1, with the approval of the MKN on the MOH's advice. To date, the government has not given any guarantees of movement as we are awaiting the report (from registration) which will begin on April 25,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said he was aware that quite a number of people had gone back to their kampungs before the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18 and had remained there since.

Some of them were separated from their children in the city or the rest of the family members for over a month now and thus, asked to be allowed to return to the city, especially with Ramadan beginning this week.

"At that time (April 25), we will see how many people want to go home. Then we can plan and implement rigorous standard operating procedures (SOPs). We will review the pros and cons and more importantly we need MOH advice," he said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The Gerak Malaysia app was developed by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
