Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said investigation are being carried out on the possibility of police officers and government officials being involved in the human trafficking activities syndicate.

He said no one will be above the law and promised that all parties will be investigated.

He said investigations are on-going and added that the police are recording statements from all quarters.

“We don’t believe there are anymore graves as we have carried out screening and thorough combing of the area. We believe there are no more additional graves or tents,” he said at a press conference after visiting the University Malaya medical Centre today.

He said as of now, there is no new information on the number of bodies found at the Malaysia-Thailand border.

“We don’t know, let us dig first. Yesterday, we managed to exhume another body. The rain is tempering our efforts,” he said.

“We are in talks with the authorities in Thailand to access the location from Satun using our own vehicles. Moreover, the rain season is making it difficult for us to access the area,” he said.

“One officer from the Forensic Department had also fell and injured while trying to access the location,” he added.

Yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said local authority including enforcement officers could be in cahoots with the human trafficking syndicate and the mass graves found near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

He said the government is now working closely with the Forestry Department at the borders in investigating the matter.
