The Malaysia Islamic Organisations Consultative Council (MAPIM) on Sunday launched the country's first Quran radio station known as 'Radio Nurul Quran Nusantara' in an effort to instill a love for the Quran, especially among youngsters.

MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abd Hamid said through 'the Light of Quran, the Light of Life' tagline, each of the radio programme will touch on the concept of implementing the Quran in daily life.

He said for a start, the radio which had started its trial broadcasting last month was operating via a web-based application and MAPIM would apply for a frequency band from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in the near future.

"The contents of the 24-hour radio is solely dedicated to all knowledge related to the Quran, including how to memorise and properly recite the Quran.

"The radio will also not broadcast non-quranic commercial advertisements," he told reporters after the launch which was graced by Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mosque lecture hall, here, Sunday.

Listeners can access the radio through mobile streaming at www.radionurulquran.com or smartphone users can download its application from Google PlayStore.
