A man suffered severe injuries when he was hacked with a sharp weapon believed to be a machete at Lorong Ganding, near here yesterday.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said in the incident which took place at 6.39pm, M. Megandran, 49, was injured on his left eye and left leg when he was attacked by a man who was in his 40s.

"The suspect accused the victim's 20-year-old son of selling drugs in Tanjung Bendahara, Alor Setar, which angered the victim and resulted in a fight to ensue," he said in a statement today.

He said, as a result of the fight, the victim fell unconscious at the scene before being rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB).

According to Mohd Rozi, the victim was currently being treated at HSB while the suspect had been arrested.
