A 30-year-old Malaysian worker was killed at a Marina South worksite today and a stop-work order has been issued, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Quoting the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the report said the worker was working at the bottom of a shaft in the ground when equipment that was hoisted by a crane dislodged from its lifting slings and fell into the shaft, striking the worker.

The worker was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, the ministry was quoted as saying.

MOM said the developer for the construction project is PUB, the national water agency, and the main contractor is Transbuild Engineering.

All work within the site has been stopped, and the cause of the fatal accident is being investigated, said the ministry.
