Malaysia has received various assistance from foreign countries in its effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said.

“Wisma Putra has been in constant communication with the Chinese government and this familiarity has made China more than willing to provide medical equipments such as face masks, hand sanitizers, COVID-19 test kits and protective equipments for the use of frontline personnel.

“We are also working closely with the government of neighbouring countries such as Indonesia to share information and to help identify Malaysians who attended a recent tabligh rally there (in Sulawesi).

"We are also co-operating with the Singapore Government to assist Malaysians working there, some of whom are affected by this Movement Control Order," he said in a statement today.

In fact, Hishammuddin said Malaysia has also been in contact with counterparts in the Middle East for assistance to fight COVID-19.

“Personally, I did not think Malaysia will receive such assistance from many countries. I believe it is not because I am the Foreign Minister but because of their recognition and respect towards Malaysia and consider us as a close friend in the international community," he said.

However, the Sembrong Member of Parliament said Malaysia could not feel comfortable as the attitude of its people were being observed from around the world.

“It is pointless for Malaysia to receive various assistance, but at the same time, some of the people do not obey the directives of their own government.

"My advice is that we have no choice but to be disciplined and to adhere to this Movement Control Order wholeheartedly," he added.
