Malaysia and Indonesia will discuss issues relating to the security of both countries, including the issue of
maritime borders, at the end of this month.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the talks would be held during the official visit of his Indonesian counterpart Ryamizard Ryacudu to the country, scheduled on Feb 27.

Hishammuddin was speaking at a press conference after launching the Third National Aspiration and Leadership Symposium at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.

Hishammuddin said this when asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo yesterday, which among others touched on the issue of maritime borders.

Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to appoint special envoys to undertake exploratory discussions on their maritime boundaries.

The initiative is one of the avenues the two countries would continue to use to resolve long-standing and complex maritime boundary issues.
